Designed by renowned architect William Blackburn, this prison complex housed men, women, and children together—regardless of age, crime, or condition. Within these cold stone walls, inmates endured the notorious treadmill, brutal punishments, and deplorable living conditions. The complex expanded in 1844 with a dedicated women’s wing, joining the original cells, courtroom, and police station in what would become one of the region’s most haunted locations.
